Shokz brings active noise reduction to open-ear earbuds

Shokz has stepped into new ground by rolling out the OpenFit Pro, its most cutting-edge true wireless earbuds to date and the company’s first open-ear model to include active noise reduction.

Introduced at CES 2026, the OpenFit Pro shows a clear change in approach for a brand that has focused on keeping users aware of their surroundings rather than blocking out sound.

Open-ear audio meant giving up immersion to stay safe. Shokz thinks the OpenFit Pro can provide both.

A new take on open-ear sound

Unlike conventional earbuds that seal the ear canal, Shokz’s open-ear designs rest outside the ear, allowing ambient sound to remain audible.

The OpenFit Pro keeps that core philosophy intact but adds a layer of control by introducing adjustable noise reduction — something not found on earlier OpenFit or OpenFit 2 models.

At the core of the new earbuds is a synchronized dual-diaphragm driver system, developed specifically for the OpenFit Pro.

Shokz says the two large diaphragms move in unison, improving phase alignment and reducing distortion across the frequency range.

The driver assembly combines a PMI aluminum dome for rigidity with a silicone diaphragm aimed at delivering deeper bass — a common weak point for open-ear audio products.

The result, according to Shokz, is clearer mids, more controlled highs, and noticeably stronger low-end response without blocking the ear canal.

Dolby Atmos with head tracking

The OpenFit Pro also steps into premium territory with support for Dolby Atmos and head tracking.

When paired with compatible content, spatial audio effects dynamically adjust as the listener turns their head, creating a more natural soundstage while keeping ears unobstructed.

Audio tuning is handled through the Shokz companion app, which includes five preset EQ profiles as well as two fully customizable options.

Users can fine-tune the sound signature depending on whether they’re listening to music, podcasts, or taking calls.

Noise reduction without total isolation

Active noise reduction on open-ear earbuds is inherently different from traditional ANC. Instead of trying to fully cancel outside noise, Shokz uses a triple-microphone system combined with an ear-canal adaptive algorithm that continuously analyzes both external sound and internal audio leakage.

Importantly, noise reduction levels are manually adjustable in the app. This allows users to dial in a more immersive experience in noisy environments or back off the reduction to remain aware of traffic, announcements, or conversations — a key selling point for runners, cyclists, and commuters.

Designed for comfort and movement

Physically, the OpenFit Pro adopts a unibody design with a flexible nickel-titanium ear hook and a soft silicone coating. Shokz says the materials were chosen to maintain stability during long listening sessions without causing pressure fatigue.

Each earbud weighs 12.3 grams, and the design avoids placing any components inside the ear canal. Physical buttons are used instead of touch controls, a practical choice for workouts and wet conditions.

With an IP55 rating, the OpenFit Pro is protected against sweat, rain, and dust, making it suitable for gym sessions and outdoor use.

Battery life and connectivity

Battery performance is another area where the OpenFit Pro aims to stand out. Shokz rates the earbuds for up to 12 hours of playback per charge with noise reduction turned off, or up to 6 hours with it enabled. The charging case extends total listening time to as much as 50 hours.

Fast charging provides up to 4 hours of playback from a 10-minute charge, and the case also supports wireless charging.

On the connectivity side, the OpenFit Pro includes Bluetooth 6.1, multipoint pairing, and automatic wear detection, allowing seamless switching between devices and smarter power management.

Price and availability

The Shokz OpenFit Pro will be available in black and white, with pricing set at €249 (around $292). Preorders open on January 6, 2026.
