Design and Build Quality
The Galaxy Buds 2 have a sleeker, higher-end look and feel compared to the QCY HT05. The buds and charging case are made of a nice glossy plastic that feels durable.
The QCY buds and case feel a bit cheaper and more plasticky in comparison, though still solidly built.
The Galaxy Buds 2 are also slightly smaller and lighter, making them more comfortable for extended use. Both fit securely in the ears, but the Buds 2 have an edge in comfort.
One unique feature of the Buds 2 is wear detection – music automatically pauses when you remove a bud from your ear. The HT05 lacks this convenient touch.
Connectivity and Controls
In terms of Bluetooth performance, both earbuds use Bluetooth 5.2 and maintain a stable connection with minimal audio dropouts. Range is similar, stretching to around 10m in open spaces before cutting out.
The Galaxy Buds 2 connect seamlessly with the Galaxy Wearable app, while the HT05 uses the QCY app. Both allow you to customize the touch controls and sound profile.
Speaking of controls, the two have responsive touch panels that let you play/pause, skip tracks, and toggle ANC. But only the Galaxy buds can launch a voice assistant with a long press.
Audio Quality
This is one area where the QCY HT05 surprised me. While the Galaxy Buds 2 sound very good, with crisp, balanced audio, the HT05 have a slight edge to my ears. The sound is fuller, with punchier bass that doesn’t overwhelm the mids and highs.
Maximum volume is also a tad higher on the HT05. So if you listen to a lot of hip-hop, electronic, or other bass-heavy genres, the HT05 are an excellent pick. The Galaxy Buds 2 are no slouch though, and some may prefer their flatter sound profile.
Both handle calls clearly thanks to their multiple onboard mics. People I spoke to said my voice came through loud and clear on both earbuds without much background noise.
Battery Life
The two are evenly matched when it comes to playtime on a single charge. With ANC off, expect around 7.5 hours of continuous use from either one depending on your volume level. Turning on ANC will drain the batteries faster of course.
Their compact charging cases hold a few additional charges, so you can easily get a full day’s worth of use. USB-C charging lets you quickly top them up as well.
