Sony’s long-awaited WF-1000XM6 true wireless earbuds have resurfaced in a fresh leak, offering the clearest hint yet that a launch may finally be on the horizon.
This time, the information doesn’t come from regulatory paperwork or hidden app references, but from a parts retailer—often a reliable sign that a product is nearing release.
The WF-1000X lineup has remained unchanged since July 2023, when Sony introduced the WF-1000XM5.
Since then, the company has refreshed its over-ear flagship with the WH-1000XM6, but the earbuds counterpart has been notably absent, fueling speculation about delays or a staggered release strategy.
Rumors surrounding the WF-1000XM6 first emerged in mid-2024, initially alongside talk of the WH-1000XM6.
However, when Sony unveiled its new noise-canceling headphones in May, there was no mention of updated earbuds.
Not long after, references to the WF-1000XM6 briefly appeared inside Sony’s Sound Connect app before being quietly removed—suggesting the product was still under development.

Since then, the earbuds have shown up in multiple regulatory databases, including listings from the US Federal Communications Commission.
While those filings revealed little about features or hardware upgrades, they consistently referenced the same internal model number: YY2985.

The latest leak comes from Encompass Parts, a retailer that supplies official replacement components for major electronics brands.
The company has now added several WF-1000XM6 parts to its website, effectively confirming Sony’s plans to release a new model.
According to the listings, the WF-1000XM6 will be available in black and silver color options, matching Sony’s traditional premium palette.
More intriguingly, Encompass Parts lists a February 27, 2026 shipping date for these replacement components.
While such dates can sometimes serve as placeholders, they often align closely with internal product timelines. Industry watchers believe this could point to an early 2026 commercial release for Sony’s next flagship earbuds.
If accurate, that timing would explain Sony’s continued silence throughout 2025 and suggest that more detailed leaks—or even an official announcement—could arrive shortly after CES 2026, which concludes on January 9.
For now, Sony has yet to confirm specifications, pricing, or design changes for the WF-1000XM6.
Still, with retailer listings now live and regulatory approvals already in place, the earbuds appear closer than ever to an official debut—ending one of Sony’s longest gaps between flagship audio releases.
