Nothing Ear (3) Revealed with Striking Metal Design and Mysterious New “Talk” Button

Nothing has officially unveiled the design of its upcoming flagship earbuds, the Nothing Ear (3), just days ahead of their scheduled launch on September 18.

The reveal brings a surprising twist: for the first time, the London-based company is introducing metal elements into both the earbuds and their charging case.

The charging case features a partially metal construction, paired with Nothing’s now-iconic transparent lid. Similarly, parts of the earbuds’ housing incorporate metal, including a 0.35 mm-thin antenna, which the company claims boosts connectivity.

This marks a significant design shift compared to previous Nothing earbuds, which relied solely on plastic and transparent components.

Premium build and improved comfort

Nothing says that gap dimensions have been tightened compared to earlier models, giving the Ear (3) a sleeker and more refined appearance.

The earbuds themselves also sport a slightly redesigned shape, aimed at improving comfort for longer listening sessions.

While the underside of the charging case remains under wraps, there is speculation that wireless charging support could be excluded if it, too, is made of metal.

The mystery of the new “Talk” button

Perhaps the most intriguing detail is a new “Talk” button located on the front of the charging case. Nothing has yet to disclose its purpose, but industry watchers believe it could act as a shortcut for launching a voice assistant—possibly ChatGPT, which has already been integrated into several of the company’s recent devices.

Adding to the communication focus, the Ear (3) introduces a “Super Mic” system. This upgraded microphone setup is designed to improve call clarity and enhance voice assistant recognition, reinforcing Nothing’s push toward AI-assisted audio experiences.

Positioned above the Nothing Ear (a)

The Ear (3) will sit above the more affordable Nothing Ear (a) in the company’s lineup, targeting users who want a premium design and advanced features without jumping to the ultra-high-end category.

With its bold use of metal, improved ergonomics, and the addition of the mysterious “Talk” button, the Nothing Ear (3) looks set to generate serious buzz when it officially launches next week.
